The freshmen of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall have defeated the freshmen of Kenneth Mellanby Hall 5 - 4 on penalities to win the male category of the freshers cup.
The first half of the game ended in a goaless draw after numerous attempts and shots on target by the Zik hall team to get the ball in the back of the net. At 6:09 pm, the whistle signifying the end of the first half of the game was blown.
After another intense display in the second half of the game, the whistle was blown, signifying the end of the second half following which the game went straight to penalties.
The Baluba cubs of Zik hall netted all goals while the Mellanby players went short of a goal when the second penalty taker hit the wood work, resulting in the the Baluba lion defeating mellanby hall with five against three goals on penalty.
Both teams had encountered each other in the finals of the previous inter hall freshers' football competition which ended in favour of the mellanby hall players. However, the tides were turned this time around with Zik Hall getting a well deserved win over the familiar foes–Mellanby hall.
In other news, Queens Hall won the female category of the freshers cup after beating Queen Idia hall 5 goals to nil.
