"Don't let other people's definition of success define you. Learn to prioritize, and don't be distracted by anything—you're going to make it no matter what."
These were the powerful words of Miss Orire Agbaje while speaking at the She Leads conference. The event which was themed Shaped for More, took place at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, on Saturday, 14th of June, 2024.
The program, organized by Team Diligence in conjunction with Temidayo Adeboye, was aimed at inspiring and empowering young females in their careers and other areas of life.
According to Temidayo, SheLeads is not just an event, it's a transformational initiative created to awaken the leadership spirit, identity, and potential in young female students within the university environment.
"Rooted in the belief that women are not waiting to be given space but are born to create space, SheLeads is designed to spark clarity, confidence, and courage in young women who are searching for their voice, their strength, and their impact," he said.
"This year’s theme, “Shaped for More,” reflects the journey every woman goes through from discovery to development and ultimately, to destiny. The event will feature power-packed sessions led by exceptional female leaders who have walked the walk women who are not only thriving in leadership but are using their platforms to pull others up."
Highlight of the event was the panel session, featuring notable female voices. Among them was Afolabi Gloria Adebayo, a creative writer and the President of the Department of English, who admonished young women not to follow trends or base their success on a man.
She emphasized, “Be proud to write the story of your life not one drawn in the shadow of a man.”
Another panelist, Anifowose Nofisat, advised young women not to succumb to societal pressures. She urged them to seek balance and remain grounded, even in the face of challenges.
Other panelists include Ajimuda Peace, an entrepreneur and co-founder of Foodbolt, and Precious Oluwapelumi, a law graduate from the University of Ibadan. Both shared insightful words of encouragement, motivating attendees to rise above limitations and pursue their goals boldly.
