The Sigma Club, University of Ibadan has on Thursday, 3rd of July, 2025 held it's 11th annual public lecture. The lecture which was held in honour of Old chief, Dr Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan at the Alumni Hall, University of Ibadan was themed "Leveraging Technology & Digital Education For Mass Employment, Wealth Creation And Poverty Alleviation."
In attendance at the event were dignitaries like the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, the governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde who was represented by the deputy chief of staff of Oyo state as well as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Kayode Adebowale who was represented by the DVC Admin.
Speaking on the theme of the event, the guest lecturer, Dr Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN examined the saddening issue of unemployment in Nigeria. He then made some recommendations on how Nigeria could leverage technology and digital education such as driving connectivity, changing curricular to allow youths take advantage of the opportunities today and ceating opportunities for students to practice what they're learning.
There were also speeches from guests and well wishers at the event with the governor, the Alaafin, the vice chancellor, sigma chief and many others speaking at the event.
