The University of Ibadan has temporarily suspended water supply across its campus, citing urgent stabilization work being carried out on the Awba Dam embankment.
This was revealed in an internal memorandum issued by the Office of the Registrar and signed by the University Registrar, G. O. Saliu. The notice, addressed to all students and members of the university community, explains that the ongoing rehabilitation of the dam is essential to prevent its collapse and avoid potentially disastrous consequences.
"The stabilization exercise is essential to preventing the collapse of the embankment and its attendant disastrous consequences," the memo reads.
While the university did not provide a specific date for the restoration of water supply, it assured the public that every effort is being made to complete the work as quickly as possible.
"We regret all inconveniences caused by the pause in water supply and solicit for understanding. Kindly bear with us," the Registrar stated.
Students are advised to make alternative water arrangements and to stay updated through official university communication channels.
