The first session of the Nigerian Model National Assembly is set to commence on Thursday, 4th of September till Saturday, 6th of September, 2025.
The conference which is themed "Legislating the Future: Youths Redefining National Priorities For A Sustainable Nigeria" is set to hold at the Faculty of Law as well as the KAAF auditorium, University of Ibadan.
In an interview with Zik Press, the conference director, Kikiola Babalola revealed that the conference is set to imitate real life parliamentary procedures. The delegates/senators will get to legislate on issues that affects the country. They will be exposed to the process of passing a bill into law.
According to him, there are five committees for the conference. They are the Public Health Committee, Public Works and Infrastructure committee, Educational and Employment committee, Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies committee and also the Intellectual Property and Inclusive Economy committee.
He further stated that delegates at the assembly will learn to cooperate and move together with others in order to get their bills passed.
"So, you learn teamwork, you learn communication. You love it with a lot of people in the committee, like, okay, what if we put this? This is the approach.This is the best, this is the right angle to go to. Because it helps them learn that real life, it's not always the best people that win. It's usually the people that put themselves out there the most and get all the top people to be with them. Yeah, nobody's going to come and meet you where you are as local champion and give you an award. So, they learn to work with other people. They learn communication, they learn negotiation, teamwork, physical thinking, logic, and stuff like that," he said.
He further revealed that experts in public policy and governance will be present at the event and that the Speaker of Oyo state youth parliament is set to preside over the assembly.
"And aside that, because it is based on professional development, we do CV reviews for them. We do LinkedIn recommendations. We give them certificate of recommendations if they want to apply for internships. We help them take, like, delegate headshots, like, professional headshots for all the participants. So, in its very essence, the conference is holistic. It's like everything professional development," he concluded.
