Sigma Club Holds Press Conference Ahead of Sigma Sports Festival

The Sigma Club, University of Ibadan, on Saturday, 6th of September, 2025, held a press conference ahead of its Sigma Club festival. Speaking at the conference, the chairman of the Sigma Club Sport Festival, Loyalist Salawu Toyeeb, stated that the competition was a rebranding of the Sigma Chief's League. 

According to him, the Sigma Chief's League, a football tournament which started in 2023, has now been expanded to include other games like table tennis, scrabble and chess.He further revealed the parameters guiding the various events and the competition as a whole.

 Overall, a total of sixteen teams/individual players are expected for each sport. Registration is free and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. DLC students as well as members of Sigma Club are prohibited from participating in the competition.

Table tennis, chess and Scrabble will be one-day tournaments. Participants who are interested in multiple categories can register for table tennis and one of either chess or Scrabble.

 As for the cash prizes, the winner of the football tournament in the male category will walk away with #100,000, the first runner-up will receive #75,000, and the second runner-up will receive #50,000.

In the female category of the football tournament, which is a five-a-side tournament, the winner walks away with ₦50,000, while the first and second runners-up walk away with ₦30,000 and ₦20,000, respectively.

In table tennis, Scrabble and chess, the winner gets ₦20,000, while the first and second runners-up get ₦15,000 and ₦10,000, respectively.

The sports festival is scheduled to hold from September 16 to September 27, 2025.
