A publication containing the details of 20 formidable speakers who will contest in the 2025 edition of Jaw War which is set to begin on 16 September, 2025 was released today, 15th September 2025.
The list, titled “Top 20 Speakers to watch out for in Jaw War 2025”, was created based on listed criteria such as Number of awards/appearances made by speakers, level of delivery in previous tournaments and lastly, popularity and influence in UI's public speaking space. It had in it, top and award-winning public speakers who had won various Speaking tournaments within and outside the University of Ibadan.
From 20th to 11th, the list had Faith Uwhokori, 200 level student of the department of Arts and Social Sciences Education (ASSE) and Rookie of the year at the previous edition of the Jaw War tournament; Israel Bolarinwa, 200 level student of ASSE; Adewunmi Obisesan, 400 student of the department of Economics; Ifeanyichukwu Elechi, President of Independence Hall Literary and Debating Society; Binuyo Samuel, 400 level student of the faculty of law and speech coach of Oudotun Ransom Kuti Hall; Nyong Bassey Nkoyo Unanaowo, final year student of Architecture and former General Secretary of Queen Idia Hall Literary and Debating Society; Abioye Ayomide Jennifer, final year student and president of the Faculty of Education Literary and Debating Society; Suara Ayomide, 500 level student of the department of Civil Engineering and Vice President of Kuti Hall Literary and Debating Society; Joshua Abidoye, Law student and president of Kuti Hall Literary and Debating Society; Victor, president of Alexander Brown Hall Literary and Debating Society.
Standing at number 10 is Idowu Ademola (Phocus), a 500 level student and erstwhile president of the Law Students' Society. Number 9 had Amaechi Patrick Okelue, a 600 level Dentistry student. Mojoyinola Okikiola Daniel (Niyel), a 400 level student and president of the Technology Students' Association (TESA) was number 8. Number 7 was Lilian Osunwa, 400 level student of Nursing. Number 6 was Folusho Olu-Adegbola, president of University of Ibadan Medical Students' Association (UIMSA).
Oyedijo Olanrewaju Segun, a final year student of Forest Production and Products and president of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Literary and Debating Society was number five. Olagunwa Michael, a 400 level student of law who serves as the president of the Literary and Debating Societies of the Law Students' Society and Lord Tedder Hall was ranked fourth. Sakeenah Kareem, president of Faculty of Arts Literary and Debating Society was third. John Eriomala, erstwhile president of Independence Hall Literary and Debating Society was ranked second and Aweda Bolaji (Oloye), a 600 level Veterinary Medicine Student, erstwhile UI'SU President and former President of The Literary and Debating Society, UI was ranked first.
