The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Thursday, October 23, 2025, organized a one-day sensitization and briefing session for final-year students of the University of Ibadan. The event was held at the Faculty of Education’s Large Lecture Theatre (LLT).
The program commenced at about 12:30 p.m. with the arrival of the Dean of Students, Professor Demola Lewis; the Director of NYSC mobilization, Dr. Oludolapo Abraham; the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator; IT personnel; and other university officials. The event officially opened with the singing of the national and university anthems.
In his opening remarks, Professor Lewis apologized for any discomfort caused by the venue, assuring students that steps were being taken to secure a more suitable location for future events. He encouraged attendees to pay close attention to the presentation, emphasizing the importance of the information being shared.
Dr. Oludolapo Abraham, an alumnus of the university and current NYSC Director of mobilization, led the sensitization. He began with a historical overview of the NYSC scheme, outlining its objectives and achievements over its 52 years of existence. He provided detailed guidance on the registration process, stressing the importance of accurate personal information such as name spellings, date of birth, and other critical details.
He also discussed the significance of obtaining a statement of results, regardless of whether one is redeployed or exempted. Dr. Abraham highlighted the four cardinal programs of NYSC: Orientation Camp, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and the Passing-Out Parade. He further encouraged active participation in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative.
Additional advice included avoiding night travel and listing trustworthy family members as next of kin during registration among others.
A practical session followed, where students were shown a step-by-step guide to the registration process. A question and answer segment allowed participants to seek clarifications before the event was brought to a close with final remarks from the Dean and the singing of the national anthem.
