Sigma Club, University of Ibadan and the Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students' Association, University of Ibadan have in commemoration of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day partnered together to embark on a "Pad a Girl" project.
Under this initiative, the associations reached out to secondary schools in an outreach dedicated to promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and supporting the well-being of young girls.
The schools covered according to a flier made available to the press are Oba Akinbiyi Model School, Mokola and Methodist Grammar School, Bodija.
In a statement made available to Zik press, the Sigma chief, Toyinbo Ayodeji, stated that while the club is a male only society, its values are not gender bound.
"While Sigma Club remains a male-only organization by structure, our values are never gender-bound. We believe that service, empathy, and impact are shared responsibilities, and caring for women and girls is not just an act of kindness, but a moral duty. This echoes the Club’s guiding motto: “For all that is Pure.” "
"Project Pad A Girl is more than a one-day event, it is a loud and clear statement that Sigma Club recognizes the often-overlooked realities many girls face. Through this outreach, we refuse to stay silent where there is a call for dignity, education, and support," the statement continued.
"As we walk into these schools today, we are not just delivering sanitary pads, we are affirming dreams, restoring confidence, and upholding the principle that no one should be left behind in the pursuit of a more equitable and compassionate society."
