OJB Accosts Yamburger While on IPM Duty

Saturday, the 25th of March, took an unpleasant turn early, if only for a short while, when Olawale Joshua, popularly known as OJB, accosted Adeniji Uthman, a.k.a. Yamburger, Zik Hall’s Information on Propaganda Minister (IPM) while the latter was discharging his official duty.

The Health Minister in conjunction with the IPM had earlier released a broadcast on Zik Hall platforms calling Zikites to participate in a tank-washing exercise on that Saturday morning.

In accordance with his usual routine and in fulfilment of the obligations of his office, Yamburger went round the Blocks in Zik Hall to make an announcement reminding Zikites to participate in the tank-washing exercise scheduled for that morning.

However, while making the announcement in front of Block D, the finalist block, Yamburger was interrupted midway by OJB who approached him and challenged him for announcing the tank-washing exercise in front of the block.

This sparked reactions from occupants of the finalist block, some in support of OJB and some against. Reacting to OJB’s interference, Yamburger, visibly annoyed, halted the announcement, and left without completing it.

Zik Press reached out to Yamburger, the IPM, who gave his view of the incident. He stated, “…about that, I felt disappointed and deprived from carrying out my duty as the IPM. But my reaction to the occurrence was a reflection of my mood at that moment, although he claimed that he was joking with me, but I needed to let him know that I don’t joke when I’m doing my Job.”

When asked whether he found OJB’s remarks to him as a joke, Yamburger stated that, “I did not see it as joke, he said I should not make Tank-Washing announcement in D block.”

Speaking with Zik Press, Zik hall’s Health Minister, Osuji JohnPaul, who organized the tank-washing exercise also weighed in his thoughts on the incident. He stated,

“Based on his duty as the Information and Propaganda Minister, I feel Uthman was in the right in that he can go around the whole hall and announce anything he wants to announce as pertaining to Zik hall. So, for the tank-washing exercise he was within his right to go to D block and announce. It was just left for them to participate or not. But for someone to come down and accost him that we don’t want to hear the announcement that was wrong on the person’s part.”

The tank-washing exercise on Saturday which is a traditional practice in Zik Hall and usually broadcast by announcement around the hall by the IPM was organized in conjunction with Rotaract Club, UI.

According to the Health Minister, Saturday’s exercise was intended to wash the tanks storing potable water which included tanks at A block and the one at D block where the incident occurred. In spite of the incident, the tanks were washed including the D block tanks.

He further stated, “the plan was always to wash the drinkable tanks that are currently in use, so D block’s and the ones at the front of A block. But when we went there we felt somehow that we even came here to just tell you guys that there is a tank-washing exercise so that you will be aware but you are now coming to accost the person that was making the announcement. It was wrong. But I felt that we still had to perform our duty and forget the whole ruckus it caused and just do our duty and move on.”

To get his side of the story, Zik Press reached out to OJB to clear the air on his conduct. He however declined from providing any comment on his part. But some sources confirm that he apologised to Yamburger for accosting him.
