The Students Union body of the University of Ibadan has appealed to the federal government of Nigeria and the ministry of education to avert the intended two weeks strike set to begin on the 13th of October 2025.
In a open letter signed by the president of the Union Oludele Covenant and the general secretary Olowu Victor, the union expressed their support with the Academic staff union of universities (ASUU) the union noted that the subject of a strike was not unfamiliar. While it appreciated some policies of the government towards addressing this issue, it also that announcements were not implementations.
The union further expressed concerns on the effects the strike will have on students therefore it demanded immediate negotiations, a renegotiated agreement with timelines , sustainable university funding, and permanent conflict resolution framework.
They also urged ASUU to seek alternative channels of engagement that preserved academic stability while pressing legitimate demands, promising to fight until victory is achieved as the strike deadline nears.
