Fadaca, Otumala Attack ZHPO, Threaten Legal Actions

Nnamdi Azikiwe’s Hall secretary, Oluwadamilare Caleb Fabiyi (Fadaca) and Attorney General, Emmanuel Otumala, on Tuesday 6th of December 2022, lashed out at the ZHPO in reaction to the press last publication, stating their disgust and grievance at what they felt was an attack on their persons, demands apology and threatening litigations if the publication is not pulled down.

“Violence” erupted on the Issues Affecting Zik hall platform in the late hours of Tuesday evening, when Fadaca reacted angrily to the ZHPO publication of the week that was posted few hours earlier in the same day. Reacting to the publication, Fadaca in a different broadcast penned down his emotions in a write up titled “DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER – Corrections, Clarifications, and demand of apology.”️

The Broadcast goes as follows: “Sequel to an article from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Press by a so-called Maestro devoid of objectivity and rather coming from an apparent mindset of political irresponsibility, an article that expects all manifesto promises to be magically achieved within weeks and days of the administration without even considering the nature of session the University is running.

The writer was able to state the week of the session we are in and that the budget has been approved but didn’t state when the budget was approved when the interviewer was specifically told the hindrance the delay caused.

It is also very ridiculous that the article writer doesn’t even know the basic duties of each member of the executive council and assumes the publication of Zikism insight which is not even a constitutional function of any executive council member, but an innovation of the former IPM to the office of Hall Secretary, which I promised to support in the availability of content.

It is also very surprising how the press tries to decide when and how the publication of the Zikism pamphlet will take place without knowing the full details of the work going on or the stage of production that such a document.

It is a serious statement from the press that the Hall Secretary hasn’t fulfilled any plan on his manifesto and the office of the Hall Secretary demands an immediate retraction of that statement and an apology in 24 hours as failure to do such will be followed by legal actions. I will also advise the press to be very careful in further publication as any attempt to defame the character and belittle the functions and work of the office of the Hall Secretary will be followed by legal actions.”

In the same vein, The Attorney General of the hall, Emmanuel Otumala, launched a personal attack on the press and Editor-In-Chief, as he poured out vitriol of words in a two-page rebuttal of the press publication.

“The first issue raised in the publication is in regard to the constitution of the ethics and litigation committee. However, it is shocking how the writer maliciously emphasized ten months’ duration in the opening paragraph before switching to eight months later in the article. This assertion was made with malice and utmost bad faith since everyone, including the clout-chasing writer, knows that the school was on strike for eight months out of the ten months claimed. In light of this, emphasizing the ten months is nothing but a deliberate attempt at smearing my reputation by “bringing to light Mr. Otumala’s dereliction.”

For the sake of well-meaning Zikites, whose interests I represent, I will clarify here that the need to appoint deserving members of the hall to the committee is responsible for the delay. The process has begun, and there are confirmed members (who have not yet been announced), but the wait is required to create a committee that will be effective.

2.     The pressman also addressed the inactivity of the Judicial Council. I find this more amusing than annoying owing to the fact that the pressman who interviewed me for this “objective write-up”, Orok Francis, is a final year law student who I believe should be educated and intelligent enough to know that: The office of the Attorney General is a distinct entity, totally separated from the Judicial Council, which is another arm of its own. Thus, to deliberately twist my statement of ten months ago to suit his narrative appears to me to be everything but smart. However, to re-explain my statement since they did not get it the first time. My office is not responsible for constituting the Judicial Council, and when I said I was going to revive the Council, I meant my office would be active enough in its primary duties of prosecuting offenders before the Judicial Council, which will consequently render the latter more active. By logical inference, the council is yet to be formed, except Mr. Pressman wants me to do the impossible and prosecute offenders before a non-existent court.”

He concluded his rebuttal by saying “A quick look at the motto of ZHPO, and you will see “Truth and Valour”. The publication, which is the subject matter of this response (just like a few others that affected individuals have pointed out), reflects neither truth nor valour. It is advised that the attention-seeking ZHPO lay aside personal interest, malice, and every act of politicking and stick to objective journalism.”

One can only wait so see what will happen next, given the possibility that this may not be the end of the unraveling drama as more articles regarding the executives’ manifestos trickle-in in the next publications.
